How To Clear Your Skin With The Oil Cleansing Method

I know some of you are pretty skeptical about putting oil on your face to clear your acne. There's nothing to be afraid of because the oil cleansing method actually works! I still use this method to this day and it still makes my skin look great.

Trust me, guys, the oil cleansing method will not break you out at all! There are two main ingredients for the oil cleansing method. All you need is Castor oil and extra virgin olive oil. It's been debated whether you need cold pressed, organic or any other fancy methods. I use regular, store bought oils from CVS and Acme and they work great for me. Don't think you have to buy the expensive alternatives, the cheap one's work just as well.

Two quick notes before I start. First, ensure you choose extra virgin olive oil and not regular olive oil. Regular olive oil is to thick and it will cause you to break out. Just be careful when choosing your oil as it's easy to get the two confused. This is pretty important if you want the oil cleansing method to work properly.

Second, you can use a myriad of other oils in place of extra virgin olive oil. You can use Grape Seed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, etc etc. My personal recommendation is to use a 50/50 mix of Grape Seed Oil and Jojoba Oil. Grape Seed Oil replicates the natural oils of your face and helps keep you balanced throughout the day while Jojoba Oil is a wonderful moisturizer and keeps your skin from drying out.

Now what you want to do is to mix up the oils, either in an empty bottle or directly in your hands. It doesn't make a difference either way. Mixing them in a separate container just helps keep the mess down. You'll want a ratio of about 10%-30% of Castor Oil to 70%-90% of your other oil(s) of choice. If you tend to have drier skin, opt for a mixture with a lower amount of Castor Oil. Get a good size amount of oil in the palm of your hand, enough to easily spread it all over your face as well as your neck. Be sure to gently massage the oil into your face for about a minute or two.

If you follow my recommendation of jojoba oil you can safely use higher concentrations of Castor oil without drying out your face. This is because jojoba oil is so good at moisturizing your face. With jojoba oil I've gone as high as 60% without drying out my face. This was great for clearing my skin even more quickly than with lower concentrations.

The next step is to take a small washcloth or towel and soak it in hot water. Don't make it so hot that it will burn you because you're going to want to place the still hot towel on your face. What this does is steam open your pores and allows the oils the penetrate into them. This is the main point of the oil cleansing method, really allowing the oils to get into your pores. Allow the cloth to cool to room temperature and repeat a few times to get the maximum effect. This is my favorite part as it's so relaxing, so enjoy it! After you've finished, just wipe the oil off with the cloth. There's no need to wash the oil off with soap, wiping it off will suffice.

That's all their is to the oil cleansing method. Just splash some cold water on your face to close up your pores. If you're using jojoba oil, you probably won't need to moisturize. If you do want to moisturize, make sure you use one that is for sensitive skin. Whether you have oily or dry skin, anyone with acne has sensitive skin.
