Skin Lifts and Grafts for Baldness

Hair loss is a serious problem. Sometimes it is caused by the kind of lifestyle we lead. While sometimes it is caused by something we have no control over such as genetics. Back in the years our fore fathers were forced to watch this notorious phenomenon go on undisturbed. Well that was not their fault at all for there were no means of treating baldness back then. Today however there are many treatments for baldness. The most interesting is hair surgery. Hair surgery involves procedures such as hair transplants, skin lifts and grafts for baldness treatment. In this article we are going to talk about what happens in skin lift and grafts fro baldness treatment as well as looking at any possible risks that are associated with such treatments.

Skin lifts involve cutting out some sections of skin that will be showing signs of no hair growth. The remaining portions of the skin are brought back together. This results in continued hair growth on the portions that have been lifted while the patches would have been removed. Skin grafts on the other hand involve cutting out sections of skin that has healthy growth of hair and grafting it onto areas that have no hair growth. The section that has donated a skin graft will recover back to normal and hair will grow back. The patch that receives the skin graft will adopt the cells of the skin graft and hair production will soon be established. These treatments are usually used to correct baldness conditions which involve hair loss areas that have hair follicles which completely died off and reactivation will be impossible.

After treatment or surgery, patients are given some antibiotics that will prevent infection as well as some anti inflammatory agent and anti coagulants which help the portion that received grafted skin not to reject the skin graft. There exists some problems in such treatment some patients may reject skin grafts and they will have to go for operations to correct any problems that occur during the healing process. Patients have to follow some strict post treatment care which must be focused on hygiene in order to avoid any contamination of skin grafts before they heal. If skin grafts are infected, they will not heal and the body will reject the skin graft. This may cause some serious medical conditions if it happens and a patient will have to go for immediate surgery to correct the problem.

Treated patients are encouraged not to expose the area that received grafted skin to sunlight even when the wounds have healed. They are supposed to wait until the skin has shown full establishment and it is now able to produce melanin and other substances like sebum which help protect the follicles from UV radiation. Patients are provided with information on how they can look after their hair after surgery as well as what they have to do in order to avoid any future bald patches from recurring.
