How Eating Right Can Improve Your Hearing

Don't resign yourself to losing your hearing simply as a by-product of aging. While it is true that as we age, our senses diminish and our hearing seems to be the first to go, if you eat a healthy, well balanced diet rich in certain nutrients, you can postpone hearing loss and may even be able to stave it off for good. Certain foods have been scientifically proven to improve your sense of hearing and as long as you adhere to a healthy diet rich in these foods, you should be fine. There is no need to resign yourself to wearing a hearing aid when you are older as long as you eat well and take care of yourself.

Be proactive rather than reactionary and try adding foods rich in vitamin A, C and E to your diet. These vitamins have been clinically proven to improve your hearing and protect your ears from hearing loss. You can find Vitamin A in foods such as vegetables that are green and yellow for instance, broccoli, carrots, pumpkin and apricots. Vitamin A rich foods are meat and dairy products such as butter, red meat, milk and cheese. Vitamin C can be found in cauliflower, collard greens, brussel sprouts, lemon, pineapples and citrus fruits. Whereas Vitamin E can be found in green vegetables, corn oil and soybeans. Make sure to eat a healthy well balanced diet in order to keep yourself in tip top shape and to keep yourself feeling and looking young.

In addition to eating right, it is important that you protect your hearing and do all you can to safeguard your delicate sense of hearing. No matter how young or old you are, try not to listen to music too loudly or to have the volume too high on the tv as you can do serious and irreparable damage to your hearing that could ultimately result in hearing loss. If you can't hear a song or the dialogue on the tv, move a bit closer so that you are more within ear shot but try not to blast the sound on full volume as it is awful for your health as well as incredibly disrespectful to your neighbors. Start conserving and taking care of your hearing from a young age and encourage your kids to do the same. Try not to stand too close to loudspeakers at concerts or events and make a conscious effort to protect your ears from loud or disruptive noises.

Eating vitamin rich foods will only help you so much. In addition, you have to make an active effort to protect your ears and look after your hearing by listening to music, tv, conversations at a neutral peaceful level rather than blaring through the loudspeaker. As long as you follow these simple guidelines, you should be able to enjoy your hearing for many years to come and will not have to resort to wearing a hearing aid.
