The Truth About Dieting

Eating disorder rehabs are gearing up to do away with the flawed mentality that people today have for a certain body type.  The youngsters these days, especially girls tend to idolize bodies of thin and waif celebrities and think that having thin figure can invite a lot of accolades and make them look gorgeous.

The tendency to reduce weight by adopting wrong methods hint more towards a psychological disorder rather than a genuine need to reduce weight.  Eating disorder rehab centers are now preferred for treating bulimia and anemia problems that are ruefully becoming the dominant health problems among the youth.

One should first clear some misconceptions about being thin. First of all celebrities (at least, the sensible ones) never advocate going thin by shunning food or binge eating. Even if they look thin for a role or a fashion magazine, there can be two possibilities: either they reduce their weight to fit in a bikini or a similar scene by cutting on diet for just a week or so; or in some cases, they look thinner in pictures due to camera techniques or Photoshop work.  In terms of attraction in terms of body type, men largely prefer women with a voluptuous figure.  Curvaceous, well-fed looking actresses like Kim Kardashian or a Marilyn Monroe will always have more male admirers than a Calista Flockhart, who is naturally thin.

Eating disorder recovery programs will tell you that there is nothing good that can be derived from being anorexic or bulimic. You are only inviting permanent problems like premature ageing, osteoporosis, hair loss etc. Apart from this, the other health issues include dental problems, diarrhea, constipation, depression, loss of periods (amenorrhea).

Here is the real life story of a girl called Mellissa who always rooted for a thin figure because she would always read fashion magazines and read websites that talk about how thin is everything when it came to beauty. Since she was not getting thinner, she checked out some fad diets and began to compromise heavily on her eating. Now the diet program required her to keep carbs out of her diet. Since Mellissa was habituated to eating carbs, she found it very hard to keep up with the diet and whenever she would go without carbs, she began to feel uneasy and weak.  Also at times, when temptation would win her over, she would eat carbs and when she would be ridden over by guilt, she would go to the toilet and puke out.

Mellissa's condition deteriorated; yes she did become thin but along with it, she also became excessively weak and pale.  She was immediately taken to an eating disorder rehab where she was administered medication to treat her low blood pressure and counseling to help her get over this condition. Soon she realized the extent of her displaced thinking and realized that instead of reducing weight by workable methods, she was just abusing her body and mind by binging. In case, there is anyone in your family or neighborhood who is suffering from such eating disorder, make sure that he or she is taken to a good eating disorder inpatient facility so that there Is no room for any health complication in future.
