Can't we all just get along?

As I surf the World Wide Web, it amazes me how much of its content focuses on negative content. Everything from the ability to comment on how much you hate certain celebrities, grievances you have with various companies and just general bitching is all available to those who want to blow off some steam. While there are many productive sites out there, the number of negative ones seems to be increasing. Everything from ihatemicrosoft.com to homedepotsucks.com allows visitors to spew their hate and let the world know what's wrong with these companies. While everyone has the right to complain about things they feel to be unjust, it would be nice if society would focus on things that better our existence instead of focusing on all the things they hate. The other day I had a conversation with someone who stated how much she "hated the internet". I asked her what about it she disliked and she went on for 20 minutes about social media and the amount of hatred is on the net. To keep things in perspective, this lady was 62 years old, so her fondness of technology is expected to be lacking, but the content found on the internet doesn't help the cause. Some sites choose to do the right thing like raising money for good causes, promoting medical research, saving the planet and other worthwhile causes.

It seems as though the original purpose of the internet has been lost on many. Originally created to allow US Department of Defense researchers to easily share information, it has now turned into a breeding ground for people who feel like they can say anything while hiding behind a computer screen.
