We all know of the amazing rate of divorce in recent times but what many do not consider is that if half of marriages fail how many come close but pull back for good or ill. This means well over 50% of marriage face serious troubles! However, how many that stop their divorce should not have held on to a terrible relationship and how many should have fixed their marriage before they split?

This may appear controversial as most would immediately say that marriage is sacred and should always be saved from the pain of divorce. You should be fully aware that you are doing this for the right reasons and that the outcome will be better than before.

How can such a decision be reached though? How do you evaluate such things? A quick checklist of things to consider follows:

  • Will this make you both happy in the long run?
  • Are you being honest with yourself over the reasons you want to stay together?
  • How will this effect your children both divorce and staying together?
  • Are you doing this out of fear rather than love?
