Today there are so many elderly people who find themselves in a situation of despair.  A situation like this does not always develop through bad planning or making the wrong choices, but rather by unfortunate circumstances or the unexpected loss of a partner, or even illness.

Many elderly who are quite capable of living independently may find that they cannot drive a motor car anymore which leaves them rather house bound for most of the time, or they simply do not have the resources to purchase groceries after paying the rent and medical expenses.  Very often cooking may be a danger to those who may be suffering from a chronic disease such as Multiple Sclerosis or something of that nature.

In situations like these, all the elderly person or persons need is a little help from friends or family and in the absence of help of this nature, Meals on Wheels recognise such a situation and can be relied on for the necessary support.

Meals on Wheels deliver cooked, nutritious meals to one`s door, and have very warm hearted and friendly volunteers who have a word of encouragement for each individual.  The elderly look forward to their arrival, not only to receiving their meals, but enjoy the interaction with these selfless volunteers who give of their time so willingly.

Each case is assessed individually, and those who can afford to pay, do so at a minimal fee, and for those who do not have the resources, their meals are provided and delivered free of charge.

Meals on Wheels therefore rely largely on donations, and have been in operation since 1939 and have one hundred and twenty three branches, which speaks volumes for the organisation, that they are managed efficiently and effectively.   They have touched the lives of countless people in many cities and rural areas and in many countries.

You are invited to support struggling Senior Citizens on a monthly basis.   You may sponsor as many meals each month as your budget will allow – for as little as R15.00 per meal.   The meals are cooked and delivered by the voluntary helpers.   Remember that collectively each donation makes a huge difference in many peoples lives.
