Recently, the Seattle Times has been writing articles regularly about horrible events that have been occurring in adult family homes in the Seattle area. Here is a recent article: . These articles write about the atrocities, such as neglect and beatings, that certain adult family home owners have exposed their residents to. One particually disturbing story describes:

“In July, Detlefs spotted bruises on her husband’s arms and an untreated gash on his left hand. She said Martin explained that Darwin Detlefs had tripped over an empty wheelchair.Ann Detlefs said she was suspicious and asked her husband if he was safe. In a rare moment of coherence, he said, “At least you don’t get yelled at.”Alarmed, Detlefs transferred him to an Everett nursing home on July 31. During an admission exam, a nurse discovered massive bruises, old and fresh, across his shoulders. Nurses took photographs for evidence.”I was told that the injuries were consistent with abuse,” Detlefs said.”

Seattle Times is also quick to point out:

“Officials at DSHS, which inspects the homes at least every 18 months, say the majority are run by caring, competent providers with good records. Officials say the agency’s standards are among the highest of those states that allow similar homes.”

We here at Cherry Hill AFH think these atrocities such as neglect and abuse are horrible and should be fully punished. We have been in the industry for over 15 years, and have worked hard to create a good name for the adult family home industry. Run by an lpn, her husband, and a reliable caregiver, we take pride in providing the best care possible for all of our residents. We provide them activities, assist with all medications, provide 3 healthy meals a day, and esure they are helped when needed. That is the business model that we live by.
