A large portion of baby – boomers are well on their way into retirement, or perhaps are already, considering retirement. Thinking about it and how one’s lifestyle may change after retiring from work can be daunting. Of course, it is hard to imagine how life would be after retiring – because it is uncertain. This perplexing thought can cause anxiety, even to the most self – assured and self confident baby boomer. But with careful planning and foresight, you can be sure you’ll be breezing through retirement with great confidence!
The truth of the matter is we all need money to survive, so the first thing to consider is your financial status. Analyze your financial situation – realistically. Do you have money set aside for retirement? Do you have a pension plans? Do you need to work after you retire so you’ll have financial support, or do you have more than enough to support you for the years after you retire? Do you have enough money to support you and the things you want to do in the future? Take a look at where you stand and find ways to either relax or remedy things.
How will you live? And where? Think about how you want your lifestyle to be? It is extremely important that you think realistically about this. Would you want to keep your house after you retire, or would you want to move to some place more manageable (smaller yard for less upkeep demand, one story houses that don’t require stairs). Will you be moving in with your children, or will they move in with you? Would you want to stay totally independent in your home, or would an apartment complex be better? These are just a few things to consider.
Think about your passions and plan to pursue them. Life after retirement doesn’t mean a boring one. After living your life slaving off to work, it’s high time to enjoy and experience your dreams and passions! If you want to start a second career, by all means, do so! Do you want to start a business, open up a restaurant, take up a new hobby or skill, and get involved in social work or travel? Go out with friends, start dating again (for single retirees, though). Pursuing your passions brings excitement to your life. After all, you deserve it.
When you finally nail these things down and lay plans for yourself, it’s really easy. Retirement and life after it should be fun, exciting and something to look forward to, and by planning ahead, you’ll be more confident about your future!
