Oakland County Tenants: Do you know about Lighthouse?

If you live in or near Oakland County Michigan, you might want to know about The Lighthouse of Oakland County.

Lighthouse, as it is called locally, has several programs that help area residents who are struggling.

Lighthouse might be able to help one of your tenants or someone else that you know.  This includes the homeless, impoverished families, seniors over 65, and disabled adults over 55.

Program: Lighthouse Community Development

Lighthouse realizes that sometimes, bad things happen to good people.  They provide foreclosure intervention counseling to handle immediate issues and educational assistance programs to help people make longer-term recoveries and stabilize themselves.

Program: Lighthouse PATH

It is great to rescue a homeless mother and her children from the street or the shelter, but what happens to them after that?  There is a transition that needs to happen, and Lighthouse is there to help.

They have a two (2) year program that allows them to develop and prepare to live without Lighthouse's assistance.  This includes providing safe, affordable housing (Pontiac, Waterford, or Troy), onsite daycare, preschool and kindergarten schooling, and several life skills classes.

They even have a PATH Teen program for homeless, pregnant, or parents who are teens.  They must agree to complete their high school diploma.

Program: Emergency Direct Services

When a person's utilities have been cut, what does a person do, especially if he or she does not have any money?  What if a family's home loses power, all of the food inside the refrigerator spoils, and they do not have any money to replace the food?  Lighthouse might be able to help.

This also includes emergency prescription services, transportation, and personal items.  You will need to contact Lighthouse for more details.

Program: The Center for Working Families

Lighthouse offers a chance for a person can take a beginning computer class to help build job skills to improve job prospects.

They provide classes to help someone learn how to manage money.  They even provide classes to help someone learn how to save for a down payment on a home and introduces programs to help low income individuals accomplish this.

They even offer free tax preparation to those who qualify.

Program: Senior Services

Seniors can receive assistance will prescriptions, durable medical equipment, nutritional supplements, housing assistance, and minor home repairs.
