This heavily illustrated publication replaces and expands on MDHS100, Surveying, sampling and assessment of asbestos-containing materials. It is aimed at people carrying out asbestos surveys and people with specific responsibilities for managing asbestos in non-domestic premises under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. The book covers competence and quality assurance and surveys, including: survey planning, carrying out surveys, the survey report and the dutyholder's use of the survey information. It includes extensive appendices and references.

From what i have read and understood the HSE no longer wish to see restrictions within survey reports as they believe better planning would resolve this, which is correct.  However the main issue with asbestos survey planning is poor education from construction workers etc that stil want to cut corners and those working within building management & maintenance that no nothing of asbestos and do not understand the complications that surveyors often come across during their survey.

All of the algorithms from the MDHS100 remain along with many other areas, there is much more information to assist duty holders in their compliance of the control of asbestos regulations 2006 and details on how the hse believe you should select a suitable asbestos surveyor.  They recommend using UKAS accredited companies only to ensure the best survey, i disagree.  The surveyors of UKAS accredited companies often only hold the same qualification as the many companies out there that do not pay the thousands of pounds per annum to qualify for the paper trail of UKAS.  UKAS accreditation is based upon paperwork, systems of work, the quality of the systems of work and anual audits of companies carrying out asbestos surveys, however they do not audit every asbestos surveyor in a company, one survey contract will be chosen and the company will ensure their most competent surveyor is on site carrying out the survey.  Therefore UKAS in my opinion does not always mean the best in surveys, it may mean the best in paperwork and systems of work but will not gaurantee that you will get one of the UK's best Asbestos Surveyors.
