Injured in an Accident at Work

Whether you have a desk job or a job in construction, you may be injured in an accident at work.  In many cases, injuries that result from an accident at work could have been avoided if the employer took the steps necessary to ensure that the working conditions were safe.  From precautions taken at construction sites, to signs in an office building lobby warning of a wet floor, there are many things an employer can do to make employees safe at work.  Government regulations are in place that requires employers to ensure workplace safety and protect employees from serious hazards.  If an employer fails to take steps necessary to make work safe, they are liable for injuries that result from an accident at work.

An accident can also occur in situations where an employer fails to give the employee proper training.  If the employee is required to use heavy machinery, the employer must properly train the individual to ensure that they are able to perform their job safely.  If an employer fails to provide adequate training, they may be liable to injuries that result from an accident involving the use of the machine.  The employer must ensure that the employee knows how to safely operate the machine and that the employee is actually able to operate the machine in a safe way.  If the disability of an individual prevents them from safely operating the equipment, the employer must not force them to do so.  If an employee is forced to work in unsafe conditions, the employer will be liable to any accident or injury that results.

An accident in the workplace is often the result of an employer failing to take the necessary steps to make the workplace safe.  In situations like these, it is in the best interest of the employee to document the unsafe conditions by taking pictures and keeping a log.  When an accident occurs on the job, the employee should try to document as much as possible so that the employer can be held liable for the injury sustained as a result of the unsafe conditions.  If an accident occurs because an employer failed to fix a cracked floor in a warehouse, the employer is liable.  Making sure to take pictures and document the cracked floor is important in order to have proof of the employers’ negligence.  Your employer has a duty to ensure that the workplace is safe and that employees are properly trained to use the necessary machines.  If an employer is negligent and fails to keep the premises safe, the employer will be liable for the injuries sustained in a workplace accident.
