Spiritual awakening is a goal that everyone seems to be looking for. Ever since the prehistoric period, people seem to be in quest for a divine union and enlightenment. There are different ancient rituals performed by different groups of people worldwide. Indigenous cultures that still exist today, shows us a glimpse of how ancient people tried to have a deeper understanding of the earth and the spirits.

People sometimes refer to this as a great realization. Sometimes it is known as a state of enlightenment. Whatever you decide to call it, the state of spiritual awakening is something that people realize. Some will offer guidelines and by following their steps for spiritual awakening will you reach that state of enlightened spirit. The Church has totally rejected these rituals, quoting them as pagan acts and condemned them. Through these rituals, people are able to understand and journey towards spiritual awakening.

Spiritual awakening and enlightenment appears to be part of religious practices. Spiritual awakening is a religious experience where the person who is enlightened had contact with the divine and supernatural. It has been part of different traditions and practices, encompassing different religions.

Enlightenment is subjective since it fits with the individual’s perception and understanding of divinity and religion. It is also something which other people who do not share the same views may find different and sometimes frightening. Even though, different religions have different understanding of the divine and supreme being, awakening experiences do appear to have commonalities, as well as their differences.

Aside from that, ancient Egypt recognizes the end of the year as the time of reckoning, reflection and engendering towards spiritual enlightenment. Meditation would also draw wisdom and health to those who share the ritual.

In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, tantra is used to express and advance spirituality. Tantra is not really a tradition but are rituals that maintain spiritual core.
