The Power of the Mind to Achieve

One of my favorite quotes from Henry David Thoreau is this; "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them."  It is a chilling thought, and it is tempting to disregard it except for the fact that it is the absolute truth.

How can you prevent this fate from happening to you?  How can you become one of the few who reach self actualization, who actually reach their potential?

It's actually very simple.  It's all in the power of your mind.

Reach for the stars, soar with the eagles

It is time to make up your mind to set your goals and go for them!  In the words of Napoleon Hill, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."  Ponder the question of how many people have not achieved the greatness that lies inside each of us simply because they didn't believe they were capable of greatness.

Mindset is so much more powerful than many realize, and your mind will take you exactly where you set it.  In the words of Henry Ford,   "Whether you think you can or can't, you are right".  That's correct, it all starts in your mind.

Do not accept mediocrity

Resolve to yourself that you will not be one of those who "go to the grave with the song still in them."  You DO have the choice to change the direction of your life.

Don't think of setbacks as failures

Another great quote from Napoleon Hill goes like this. "Every adversity, every failure and every heartache carries with it the Seed of an equivalent or a greater Benefit." It is so important to realize that life is not about kicking back and doing nothing.  Whatever you believe spiritually, whether you believe in a Higher Power or not, the facts speak for themselves.  There is proof all around that mindset takes us where we want to go and where we believe we can go.

It's not just about you

One of the truths that the historic greats have consistently espoused is the concept that true growth is not achieved unless you are creating it in others.  In the words of Dietrich Bonhoffer, "If you do a good job for others, you heal yourself at the same time, because a dose of joy is a spiritual cure".     Jim Rohn says it another way, "Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have."  And the Bible in Acts 20:35 says, "There is more happiness in giving than in receiving."  Try to do something good for someone every day, not expecting anything in return.  Practice this consistently, and it will become a habit that will reward you over and over again and propel you toward a life full of meaning, contentment, and overwhelming success!

Find a Mentor

In my personal business, I have both coached and been coached by other like-minded individuals.  There is nothing that compares to the influence of other successful people in propelling each other toward your goals.  By associating with people who have achieved what you want to achieve,  you will learn the secrets and habits that have made them successful.

In summary, success and self-actualization are not an accident.  Neither is failure.  It is your choice to have the life of your dreams.  Set your goals, find your leaders and follow them.  Then, consistently and persistently take the steps to reach your goals.  Believe that all things are possible, and never give up.  Choose not to live a life of regret, but instead to live a life of value, a life that will give back to the earth and make it a better and better place!  I challenge you to make this choice, and I promise you will never look back with regrets!
