How to control your Mood
You may or may not Believe in ,but, your success in whatever you do is linked to your mood. You are the way you feel and you act in a similar manner. As a result of this feelings, you react badly to your clients, you nag at your spouse, you don’t go to work early, you are not listening to the lecturer in class. You do all these things because of the way you feel at that time- your mood. Before, we paint ‘mood’ as a bad thing, allow me to explain that it could be good or bad, it is entirely dependent on how you control it. You must make a deliberate attempt to control your mood, to be in a good mood, I will show you 3 techniques you can use to control you mood and increase your productivity. - Look for what works for you: I discovered that when I listen to fast, interesting music, it has a way of putting me in a good mood, so from time to time, I have my ear piece on my ear and I am listening to music. I discovered that if I haven’t had a bath by 12noon, I begin to feel scrappy and my mood changes, so I try to always take my bath early enough. I discovered that if I haven’t had anything to eat by 3PM I begin to feel gloomy and fall into a bad mood. You have to find those things that put you in a good mood and those things that put you in a bad mood. For you, visiting friends may put you in a good mood, if could be playing the piano. Whatever puts you in a good mood is worth your time. When you discover what works for you, it is time to work on it. Ensure you consistently have yourself doing the things that make you happy.
- Have a plan:The truth is that, a lot of times, we lose control of our mood where we are uncertain of the next step. A lot of times, we cannot see beyond the bend and as humans being that could be frightening. If you must control you mood, you must be willing to have a plan, and if that plan doesn’t work as expected, make another plan. It also pays to know the plans that the creator has for you. If you believe that you were created and you didn’t evolve from a rock then it might help to know what the person that created you had in mind when He created you. Usually, I look into the bible and discover Jer 29:11 – ‘The plans I have for you is a plan of good and not of evil to give you a desired future and a hope’, and when I feel like I am low on funds, I tell myself Phil 4:19- ‘My God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory’ and when it seems like it is taking time , I recall Hab 2:3 – ‘ for the vision is yet for an appointed time… but it will come’. And, when I feel insignificant and incapable, I remember Gen 1:26- ‘God said , let us create man in our image according to our likeness and let him have dominion’. I have learnt that God cannot be in a bad mood, if I have been made in the image of God then I should not be in a bad mood, since I was created to have dominion, I should be able to control my mood. I have a plan for my life based on the original plan of the created and this keeps me in a good mood because I look at the big picture, I ignore minor setbacks.
- Forget the past:A lot of times, we get into a bad mood when we recall bad experiences, the truth is that the past is past and should be left behind. I strongly believe that we should look into history for lessons to learn but we shouldn’t dwell in the past else we would miss out on the present. Therefore, if you want to control your mood, you must learn from the past and move on, don’t dwell there. Now that you are ready to forget the past, look into a mirror and smile by faith, just smile and laugh at yourself.
If you have come this far then you can go further it is time to use these 3 techniques, in no time you would be controlling your mood and controlling your life. I would love to read your comments and tell me what you think about this piece, so WRITE ON!
