So how can you ensure that your goals reflect your heart? Here are five steps you can take: 1. Reflect. What are your core values? What are those things you would never compromise? What do you spend your time and energy on? What are your strengths? Those things that you could spend hours doing and not notice the time passing? What do you need to do more of or less of? Spend some time thinking about your values and work through your thoughts and feelings about yourself, your business, your family, your faith, your total self. Then list 3 to 5 things you would like to do differently or change. Write your responses down to use as possible goals. 2. Be SMART. Now that you have a list of possible goals, prioritize them by importance to you. Then take the one with the highest priority and make it a SMART goal: - Specific - Goals that are vague are difficult to pursue. If you make your goals reasonably specific, then you will have a clearer target to aim at. Include as much detail as possible when you write down your goal. - Measurable - When you have measures for your goals, you are able to track your progress as well as more easily determine how well you have achieved your goals. The idea here is to have some type of yardstick against which you can measure your progress. Perhaps you identify some quantitative targets for tracking your progress.
