Rain Rain Go Away -My Kids Want To Play

It's raining again and the kids are bored and you are about ready to pull your hair out and holler for help. What is a mother to do? She understands that the kids have built up energy, but she can't let her child run around the house and jump all over the furniture just because they can't think of anything else to do. So, it's time to come up with an idea of how to give the kids something to do and have them stay calm at the same time.

Remember when you were kids and it was raining outside or there was a major snow storm and you weren't allowed to go out and play?

By the way, This never made any sense to me, if you have to take a shower the body and hair get wet, so why not in the rain or snow? Jumping in a puddle can be good exercise, can't it? Any way, let's get back to the subject; organizing your child's play day in doors.

It seemed like every toy that you had automatically became totally boring; all at the same time. You had played with it time and time again and no matter how hard you tried, you just couldn't think of anything new to do.

The shows on TV all seemed to be reruns and the video's had been watched to the point that you could almost mimic what the actors were saying.

Talk about total boredom! Yes, the way you saw it; there was absolutely nothing to do. So, now you can understand exactly what your kids are feeling at this particular time.

The nice thing about looking back to when you were kids and remembering things like this is that it also helps you to remember the fun things that you did. Now is the time to look deep into that childhood, bring back those great memories and pass these things on to the children in your life.

Let's play a game called-Remember When:

Remember When- You used a blanket and threw it over a table or a clothes line in the basement and made a tent. It was great, that blanket became a tent, a house, a large size doll house, a garage and countless other things. Wasn't using your imagination fun?

Remember When-You would play dress-up with mom and dads clothes? Sometimes you would put on a fashion show for mom or grandma and they would laugh so hard. The clothes weren't the funny part; it was all of that goopy make-up you put on thinking that you looked gorgeous.

Remember When-Mom would give you a bag and a list of things to find around the house and she called this silly game a Scavenger Hunt? The first one done would always win a super prize, like a super big ice cream cone.

Remember When-Mom and Dad would put the cars outside and let you kids go and play in the garage? Boy was roller skating in there ever nice, no cracks in the cement and no hills. Somehow, the boys would always end up getting their trucks out and having races from one end of the garage to the other. Remember When-Grandma would come over and hide something-somewhere in the house and we all had to go and find it? Sometimes that would take almost an hour, but we finally found it..we sure fooled her didn't we?

Remember When-We had a Rainy Day Jar that had a whole bunch of papers with things to do written on it and the only time we could use that jar was on a rainy day? Mom used to listen to us talk about the things that we liked to do the most and every once in a while you would see her write something on a piece of paper and throw it in the jar. Only no body ever knew what she wrote on that paper until it was a rainy day and we finally could pick something out of the jar to do. Remember When-We would have a picnic on the kitchen floor with hot dogs and soda and then if we were really good all of us would get an ice cream bar for dessert?

Those sure were the days, I sure wish it was raining outside, so the kids and I could have some real fun. It would be so nice to give them the memories that I cherish so much.
