What to Do Before Getting Pregnant

Congrats! You and your partner are thinking of conceiving. This is an exciting time in your lives and now is the time to start preparing your body for a healthy and happy nine months!

Preparing your body for pregnancy before you try to conceive - both nutritionally and physically - can be very important in increasing your chances of having a healthier pregnancy and conceiving more easily.

When you and your partner decide to conceive, you will need to make an appointment with your OB for a preconception checkup. By scheduling a preconception checkup, your physician will be able to help you make informed decisions regarding your reproductive health, prenatal supplements and any health issues you may already be facing.

It is also important to make an appointment with your dentist for a check-up. Keeping your teeth in tip top shape before and after pregnancy is very important.

Remember to eat a healthy diet. Your baby’s primary source of nutrients will be from you, so remember to start eating healthy before you conceive.

Tell your physician of any supplements you are currently taking. Chances are your OB will prescribe you a prenatal vitamin at your first OB visit.

Stop drinking alcoholic beverages, smoking and begin to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Do not lounge in hot tubs, hot bathes or hot showers when you are trying to conceiveand make sure you maintain a regular exercise and stay healthy.

Make sure you use  proper precautions when cleaning the kitchen sink or doing laundry, where a face mask when necessary so you do not breathe in harmful chemicals.
