There's little question that the technology is available today that allows us to chose the sex of our baby. But, most times this requires the help of a gender selection clinic, a clinical, sterile environment, and thousands of dollars.

This article is not going to focus on gender selection in a clinic because I don't have any first hand experience with this. I just could not afford it nor justify the cost. Instead, I will discuss things you can do at home to help you practice inexpensive, natural gender selection.

In order to choose the sex of your baby, you'll need to be able to manipulate three things: 1) the timing of conception; 2) the vaginal PH / environment of the mom to be; and 3) the distance from the sperm to the cervix.

Before we discuss these though, you should know that the Y (boy) sperm and X (girl) sperm have different characteristics. The boy sperm are lighter and faster, but of the two, are the least hardy and quickest to die off. The girl sperm are slower and larger but can survive for longer periods of time in an acidic and harsh vaginal environment.

Timing Conception To Conceive A Boy Or Girl:If you want to conceive a baby boy, you should conceive on the day of ovulation because the boy sperm will tend to die off any time before this. To conceive a girl baby, you should attempt to conceive three days before ovulation since this will favor the girl sperm that are well strong enough to survive for that long. Obviously, to do this, you need to know exactly when you ovulate. There are many natural methods for this, such as evaluating basal temperatures and cervical mucus. But in my opinion, these just leave too much to chance. I must prefer ovulation predictor kits. Of these, I strongly recommend the saliva variety, as they are reusable and extremely accurate.

Changing Vaginal PH / Acidity Or Alkalinity To Choose Your Baby's Sex:Remember that boy sperm can not survive a hostile or acidic environment, so if you're trying to conceive a boy, you will want to change an acidic vaginal PH to an alkaline one. If you want to have a girl baby, then you'll have to boost your acidity. The best way to do either is to first determine your exact PH using testing strips. Then, you'll know exactly where you are and can manipulate your PH from there. (Most people need more than just vinegar and / or baking soda and water.)

You can do this by douching specifically for where you fall and where you are trying to go and / or you can eat or avoid certain foods. I recommend doing both, but I know some people prefer not to douche. If this is the case, you can achieve your desired PH through food, but you'll have to be very thorough with this. I do not recommend herbs, vitamins, or supplements to alter PH as some will also alter your ovulation and this is not what you're going for when you need predictable ovulation to select the gender of your baby.

Intercourse Positions To Conceive A Boy Or Girl:Building upon the hostile environment discussion, you can position the sperm closer to or further away from the cervix to take advantage of X and Y sperm characteristics. Deeper penetration will place it closer to the cervix (and favor having a boy baby) while more shallow penetration will place it further away (and favor having a girl baby).
