The Power of Presuppositions in Conversational Hypnosis

Conversational hypnosis is all about language and how you use it. In order to successfully hypnotize someone through conversation, you need to know all about the various conversational hypnosis techniques, how they apply to language, and when to use them. Stealth tactics are very valuable concepts to understand while you study hypnosis.

Stealth tactics are essentially ways to enter the subject's mind, leave your suggestion without detection, or overload the conscious mind in a way that prevents it from objecting to the presence of your suggestion. Through stealth tactics and special language skills, you can masterfully hypnotize someone just by talking to them – just by holding an everyday conversation.

Presupposition is one of these stealth tactics and can be extremely valuable in hypnosis. The basic idea behind presupposition is a linguistic assumption; if you say to someone “My coffee cup is empty,” there are a few presuppositions built into it. The first is that there is a coffee cup, the second that the cup once had coffee in it, and the third that you drank the contents of the cup. These are assumptions taken from the initial statement – presuppositions.

Now, even though you never said your coffee cup had coffee in it or that you drank it, your subject would most likely assume that you did. Once the statement is made, the subject does not question whether or not there was coffee in the cup before; rather, they are probably going to wonder where you can get more coffee, or what your feelings are about not having coffee anymore. They may even offer to go get you more coffee.

By understanding the different types of presupposition, we can learn how to use stealth tactics in everyday conversation to hypnotize someone in a way that makes them more receptive to our suggestions without actually controlling their thoughts. Conversational hypnosis is about using the power of language to persuade people, not mind control them. Suggestion can be an immensely powerful tool if used in a way that appeals to the subconscious.
