Causes of Anxiety

Causes of Anxiety

Life, as the saying goes; is how you make it. Life is too short to be dedicated to worries. As humans we need to master the art of living so that we can make the utmost of life. The following are some of the reasons why we may feel distress at times.

1.Lack of faith in the Creator of all that exists.

2. Indulgence in sins.

3. Extreme love of life and fear of death.

4. Fear of poverty.

5. Apprehension that some calamity might strike.

1. Lack of faith in the Creator of all that exists

Man must realize that his existence did not come about by chance, but that he was created by a super-natural being. Belief in this Being offers great security and guidance in life. The Creator who creates man knows exactly what benefits and what harms him. Therefore, with this direction, life will take it proper course instead of being left to desires and whims. A person who lacks direction in life will be subjected to unnecessary worries and anxiety. Man is composed of body, mind and soul. To maintain balance, each an every aspect must be given its due right. The question might arise how to give this due right, and that will be dealt with in a future discussion-“Justice to Body, Mind and Soul”

2. Indulgence in Sins

Man is created with desire and conscience. Whenever the desire forces man to do something wrong; this action creates a burden on the conscience. For example, abortion of a developing baby can cause an untold burden of guilt upon the conscience of the one who involves in it. So also so is any crime committed, whether theft, homicide, slanders or what ever; whether small or big can burden the sense of right and wrong and consequently be the cause of worries, depression and restlessness.

3. Extreme love of life and fear of death

If someone is extremely materialistic and is constantly neglecting the soul, this can lead to unnecessary fear death. An event like death is not controlled by man and all one is to do is prepare for death by taking care of the body, mind and soul. When this balance is maintained, the individual enjoys an unexplained serenity and tranquility in life which none knows except those who have tasted it. This is the true spiritual success.

4. Fear of poverty

At times, people put themselves into senseless anxiety and distress because they fear that they may encounter financial loss. In most cases, what they fear might not even occur. These worries sometimes lead some people to commit suicide. So, why wasting life concerning occurrences which are not controlled by man.

5. Apprehension of misfortune

Generally speaking, life is full of ups and downs and it is a continuous struggle. In life, eventualities like accident, illness, or one might not get an expected job or lose an existing one, divorce, sudden death of a loved one and other types of unfortunate incidents might occur. But what is certain is that no one knows for sure when and where these might take place. Instead of reducing your days to unhappiness, it is better to concentrate on the present moment and make the best of it and be optimistic about the future. You need to know the purpose of your creation and be obedient to your Lord as this will give you assurance of bliss ahead.
