Who Can Handle The Truth?Life has taught me a hard lesson. One can get killed (literally) for advocating the TRUTH! Such is not so much the case today; however, history is our professor with the evidential examples. Do the names of Copernicus, Newton, and others who propogated the heliocentric principles come to mind? Or, maybe you might remember the name John Hus? He was excommunicated in 1411 for possessing a Wycliffe Bible and advocating that one should be permitted to read the Bible in their own language. Outrageous! Excommunication not being sufficient enough punishment, the Catholic Church had him burned at the stake July 6, 1415. Among his last words were, "In 100 years God will raise up a man who will call for reforms that cannot be suppressed." The prophecy came true and the man was of course Martin Luther. And then there was the great theologian, John Calvin. On October 27, 1553 John Calvin, the founder of Calvinism, had Michael Servetus, the Spanish physician, burned at the stake just outside of Geneva for his doctrinal heresies! And those heresies would be what? He believed in ONE GOD and not three. He didn't embrace Calvin, nor the Catholic Church's trinitarian view, thus he was condemned by Catholics and Protestants alike. He was arrested in Geneva and burnt at the stake as a heretic by order of the Protestant Geneva governing council. Are you getting that we might be missing some LOVE here? Early on Christianity and man of the church fathers realized that they needed to hide the real TRUTH. Just keep things simple. One such church father, Gregory Nazianzen wrote, "A little jargon is all that is necessary to impose on the people. The less they comprehend, the more they admire." Who can handle the truth TODAY? There is still a compulsion to conceal TRUTHS that might be misinterpreted or misunderstood by the ignorant. Have you ever wondered why the Catholic church didn't want the congregation to have a Bible, much less study it, or why it was read in Latin? And, why the call, in 2010, to go back to reading it in Latin? Can you say CONTROL (More on that tomorrow)? LOVE is the only way, and Jesus was the WAY- the TRUTH! <!-- .entry-content --> |
