Mormon Church Magazines and LDS Art

The Mormon church publishes magazines on a monthly basis. There are three main magazines that have been in distribution for several decades.

"The Friend" – This is a publication for the children in the Mormon church. This publication includes puzzles, pictures, games, coloring, and other fun things children enjoy. One section of the magazine is called "Our Creative Friends", which is dedicated to the artwork created by the children of the church. "The Friend" helps strengthen testimonies and gospel knowledge for smaller children.

"The New Era" – This is a publication for older youth and teens typically between the ages of 12 - 18. This publication includes stories, personal experiences from members and other articles to aid teens and youth through inspirational quotes from church leadership. This magazine also has artwork called mormonads – pictures and inspirational ideas that teach moral lessons and ideas.

"The Ensign" – This publication is for adult members of the church. This magazine has instruction from the top leaders in the Mormon faith, which includes messages from the first presidency, as well as quotes and other articles from other leaders and scholars in the church. The magazine contains much LDS and other artwork to inspire members.

Church publications have been important to the membership of the Mormon church since the church was organized. They are a way to share the news and other valuable information from the leaders of the church and spiritual insights and experiences with the general body of the church. The LDS art contained in the magazines is used to help make the articles more visually appealing. In most issues of "The Ensign", there is a section in the back that is used to display art from LDS artists all over the world. "The New Era" has LDS art that helps youth to learn moral principles. "The Friend" magazine has a more cartoon style artwork to help capture the interest of the children.

The purpose of these publications is to give members of the church spiritual strength.
