The Four Towers of Personality Development

I have a Psychology class when I was in college. My teacher that time was my favorite because the class is new to me and I learned a lot of things about human behavior. One  lessonthat I can't forget is about this four essential life ingredients that are very crucial to our development. Especially during our childhood days. These towers have to be built on our foundation to strengt hen us in living a life that we wanted to have.

As I analyze those four towers, I can't help but to agree more with the idea of it. Thus, I want to share it with you, especially those who are parents or becoming parents. Live this values and plant to your children on the early days of their development.

Here are those so called towers that make up who we are today.

Love. This is the most basic foundation that we need to show to anyone especially to our loved ones. Our home should be the first place where our children learn this at first hand. As father, show your love to your wife and children. They will grow and establish in their mind that loving is the best possible gift that we can provide to our loved ones.

Trust. Believing and having faith with them, showing them that you trusted them is very crucial in child's formation. Thru this value they will learn to trust themselves also. Thus, it will gradually increase their self-esteem. This should be granted with care, and always have your inputs to them about important lessons that they will learn. Entrust them with some decisions about theirselves, or ask them to give their inputs on some family decisions. They will learn to stand on their ground firmly early in life.

Belongingness. Each of us, especially children needs a family to protect them. They need some place where they will feel that they truly belong. It is a human need to be accepted in a group or society. And it starts in our home; they need to be accepted as a very important part of the family. No conditions attached, each of us deserved to be a part of it.

Respect. Everyone wants to be respected. But before it happens, we need to show respect first. It is defined as positive feelings that we showed to a person or other entity that have specific conducts and specific actions. Even when they are children, it is right for us to show them respect. Learn to know their feelings, ask them what they want and give them voice inside your home. Teach and show them that you respect them and you'll have your respect from them in the end.

These towers have to be established early in their life inside our home. Ensure that you have provided and nurtured your children with these four values. It will surely have a great impact to them on their life.
