We live in a quick fix society; people generally look for the quickest and easiest way to get things done. This breeds a generation that expects a magic pill for every problem faced. We see commercials with people losing weight in just 3 weeks and are as accustomed as a society to this type of advertisement we actually find it feasible to believe this. We Neglect the huge amount of hard work and discipline that comes into it. Hundred years ago people were more family oriented and they attached their identify to their family. Now with consumerism we have a lot of people lost in who they are and what they value and as such they are like a riff in the wind, scattering and looking to other people to tell them who they are. Most people never follow through on anything which makes it hard to fathom how they could ever trust themselves if they never finish any of their goals.
People can just get a easy nine-five mediocre job, put in time, go home watch their five hours of television "that's the national average of amount of television watched per day" and believe that the system will take care of them. Forget that your life is a meaningless pit of consumerism. The things you own make you cool.
We are all told to belief that our detoured life plan is the key to happiness and success but what we are neglected to be educated on is that the detoured life plan itself is generic and does not take into account our passions and our own identify. We need be successful in order to motivate people but we neglect the enjoyment of the process. The process is part of the journey. A lot of major celebrations and successful people get to their destination only to be disappointed when getting there. They thought that when they reached their goals that they would be happy but the enjoyment is in the journey not the outcome. Enlightenment is in the present and any goals set in the future is just a detour to happiness.
Young teenage man are guided in the direction that bodybuilding will give them more confidence and a higher self of stem and at the surface this makes sense but looking deeper into it, why are people that body build more confidence? Why do people think that they will have a higher self of stem? You may get a temporary fix of self of stem from living up to sociality standards but it only temporary and this causes an establishment of a pattern of living up to other people's standards. This is not the right way to be guiding young people. Years and years living in this idealize will lead to a lower self of stem.
In the search for self of stem people take unbelievable high risks to their health with plastic surgery and anabolic steroid use. It is sad to see such risks taken on the one thing that matters most out of anything in the world and that is your health. If we as a society have gotten to the point where were willing to sacrifice our health for a brief sense of self of stem then clearly we have a mix up in values.
