Should I moisturise at Night Before Going to Bed?

There are 2 schools of thought. Some swear by the use of a ?product_category=Facial+Lotions+&+Moisturizers" night moisturiser before retiring to bed, while others follow a more holistic approach and don't put anything on after cleansing and toning at night.

It really depends on the individual and how your skin responds to the different night time treatment methods. But the best way to find out what works best for you is to trial both methods. Allow a month to yourself without the use of any moisturisers before going to bed and another month with moisturisers at night, then weigh out the results to see how your skin reacts after 28 days.

ome brands such as the famous holistic Dr Hauschka , advocate that you shouldn't moisturise at night time because it doesn't allow your skin to breathe properly during the skin's natural nighttime rejuvenation period. According to Dr Hauschka, your skin is most active when you sleep, renewing cells, balancing oils, eliminating wastes, and expelling impurities. If moisturisers are applied at night, these functions are hampered and over time skin becomes less able to care for itself.

But my skin is dry after I cleanse

It is true that after you cleanse, the chlorine from the water may cause your skin's pH level to rise causing dryness.Dr Hauschkarecommends using a toner in place of a moisturiser to balance out the pH to an optimum 5.5 level. Toners are usually water based products that contains healing oils which support the balance of oil production. Following the Dr Hauschka regimen allows the skin to carry on its important night work. Balanced healthy skin needs nothing more than cleansing and toning before bed.
