Vicks Vapo Rub Causing HallutionationsAlthough the instructions does say not to use on the nose, most parents do not read the instructions and use it right where the problem is, on the stuffy nose. Whenever I had a cold and a bunged up nose my mother would use Vicks VapoRub on the chest and nose before I went to bed. And it did feel better, however I would also get hallucinations, and panic attack symptoms (a feeling of fear for no reason) and confusion. Being a child I never knew what was causing this at the time, however after having the same reaction as a teenager I can now say for myself that these feelings were caused by using Vicks VapoRub. I haven’t used it since and I have never had any difficulty with sleeping or any of the symptoms. My advice (if you have a reaction) would be to not use it near the nose area, and also bear in mind it can soak into your blood stream. If your child complains of nightmares, being scared, or panicking whilst using Vicks VapoRub you may think it's because of the initial cold, flu or fever. But it is most likely due to a reaction with the Vicks VapoRub. Ingredients in Vicks VapoRub: Active Ingredients:
