How to fall asleep immediately your head touches the pillow

How to fall asleep as soon as your head touches the pillow.

By Dennis Fisher.

You often hear people say they are able to fall asleep as soon as their head touches the pillow.  Is this just an empty boast, or is it really possible to do this?

If you suffer from insomnia and have trouble sleeping night, this could be a useful trick to learn.  It actual fact it is not a trick, it’s a skill.  It’s a skill that’s not very difficult to master. Let me show you how to develop this skill.

People who have developed the skill of being able to fall asleep as soon as their head touches  the pillow, have taken advantage of a scientific fact discovered by the Russian scientist Pavlov many years ago, the "Conditioned reflex".

Pavlov's experimented with dogs and discovered that when he fed the dogs and rang a bell at the same time, they started to salivate.

After the experiments had continued for some time, even when there was no food present, the mereSOUNDof the ringing of the bell was enough to start the dogs salivating.

In the same way asSOUNDcan produce a "conditioned reflex", it can also be produced by the other four senses,SMELL, TASTE, TOUCH OR SMELL.

Think how theSMELLof freshly baked bread can stimulate one’s gastric juices and make you feel hungry.

A conditioned reflex can also be induced in human beings in very much the same way as dogs. The reason why some people are able to fall asleep immediately their head "TOUCHES" the pillow is similar in certain respects to Pavlov’s conditioned reflex experiments.

In order to fall asleep as soon as you go to bed, you have to be completely relaxed. When you learn to associate the touch of your pillow with a feeling of complete relaxation, you’ll be able to fall asleep immediately.  The "touch" of the pillow can have  the same effect  as a conditioned reflect.

You can speed up the process by making use of your other sensesas well.   When you go to bed, in addition to consciously focusing on the relaxing feeling of a soft pillow, use a tape recorder to play gentle, melodic music and focus on the soothing sounds. It’s also a good idea to place a bowl of warm water next to your bed in which you have inserted drops of a pleasant smelling flower scent.

In the same way as the ability to master any skill requires practice, it will be necessary for you make a point of repeating the process of associating your pillow with sleep a number of times.  But with practice it is a skill you can master.  It will soon become a conditioned reflex.

It won’t be long before you will also be to fall asleep as soon as your head touches the pillow.

The ability to fall asleep as soon as your head touches the pillow is a very good habit.  It is a habit that many people probably first developed in their childhood, when loving parents sang them to sleep.

The inability to fall asleep when you go to bed – and to lie awake for hours – which is typical feature of insomnia, in most cases, is nothing more than a bad habit. But it is a bad habit that has to be broken.  There are ways in which this can be done.

If you are one of the many unfortunate individuals who  happens to suffer from severe insomnia, you will find a great deal of useful information about ways this condition can be cured on the following site:
