Types of Pillows

Pillows are cushion like support items that are used to keep the body in good shape and posture as we relax, either lying or sitting down. They come in many types, shapes and designs. Their categorization is also based on the function they are meant to perform. For example, there are orthopedic pillows, which ensure that the body, especially the spine, remains in good posture, whatever position one has adopted. There are also decorative pillows and bed pillows.

Under these categories are specific types, known by their specific names and which carry their own unique features and characteristics. There is a long list of such specific pillows, but just to mention a few, let us have a look at the traditional pillows. These are the type of pillows that we are so much used to. They are the ones that we use as we sleep and they are mostly rectangular in shape.

They come in standard size, queen size and king size, the implication being that they are small, medium and large sized. We also have body pillows, which are basically nothing more than cushions that are made to the size of the body and they meant to support the whole body as you sleep. They serve a great purpose for pregnant mothers and people who prefer to sleep on the side. Neck pillows are other specific types of pillows that are u-shaped and others cylindrical, specially designed for supporting the neck while sitting.

Husband pillows have a funny name in themselves, but they are not designed for husbands alone as the name seems to suggest. To the contrary, they are designed in such a way that when one rests against them, it appears as though the person is being supported by another one from behind. They have a high back and extensions that look like arms. They act as great supporters when one is using the laptop, reading or watching TV.
