Sleep Deprivation While Driving & What Causes It

Do you know how dangerous sleep deprivation while driving is? Once, a study was done where a drunk driver drove their car, and so did a sleepy driver. Guess who drove worse? The sleep deprived driver!

Sleep deprivation while driving can also lead to hallucinations. I remember one time I was driving from a concert in the middle of the night. My destination was about 174 miles from where I was starting from, so it wasn't too far, but not short either. Anyway, we took off around midnight, and I had to stop twice to sleep. But each time I got back on the road again, I started to nod off and hallucinate. The second that I thought about something other than driving, I would start to fall asleep. There was another instance when I drove for an hour at 2 in the morning. When I got home, I only remembered about 15 minutes of the trip. Talk about sleep deprivation while driving!

Fortunately, I have wised up since then, and I don't drive when I'm tired anymore!

The sad thing is, many people are driving while sleep deprived on a regular basis, and it is because they are having trouble sleeping during the night. Their insomnia could be caused by a number of factors. Some of these include stress, pain, alcohol or caffeine use, or even the foods they eat.
