5 Common Adrenal Gland DisordersThe adrenals are two very important organs of the body. They are mainly responsible for releasing two (among others) important kinds of hormones directly related to stress and the bodies ability to deal with it: cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones are important to the body for different reasons such as maintaining the metabolic rate of the digestive system, allowing for a healthy pregnancy for both the mother and the baby, sending the flight or fight response signals to the person, and even play a part in sexual maturity and reproduction.
But because the systems of the body can go hayware, there are instances wherein the adrenal glands produce deficits or too much of a certain type of hormone. Note that the body needs different hormones in order to do different types of functions. Here are some of the common adrenal gland disorders which you may come across: 1. Pheochromocytoma - This is caused by the chromaffin cells wherein an overproduction of a catecholamines trigger high blood pressure. Because of this, a tumor develops right at the adrenal glands. Those that also grow outside the adrenal glands are known to be highly cancerous. 2. Addison\'s Disease - This particular type of disorder in the adrenal glands happens when there is an insufficient production of the corticosteroids which are also being released through the adrenal glands. A person who has Addison\'s disease is prone to different types of illnesses such as tuberculosis and even cancer. 3. Virilization - This disorder is known to be a cause of too much sexual hormones produced by the adrenal glands. With the overproduction of the testosterone, a female may possible turn out to be virile or produce physical characteristics that are more associated with males than with females. 4. Cushing\'s Syndrome - This disorder breaks out when there is an overproduction of cortisol in the adrenal glands. The most common sign of this disorder is when a person experiences rapid weight gain, mostly seen at the neck area. 5. Hyperaldosteronism - This is characterized by the overproduction of the aldosterone which affects the sodium and potassium levels of the body. Although you may not have any of these diseases, you could still have problems with your adrenal glands and it may be affecting the way you feel every day. Adrenal fatigue is a syndrome in which your adrenals underproduce cortisol, not to the extent of Addison\'s disease, but enough to cause you to experience the following symptoms: fatigue, low stamina, low blood pressure, low sex drive, sudden weight gain, hypoglycemia and an inability to concentrate. James Richardsen is a health enthusiast actively involved in the adrenal fatigue community. After suffering from adrenal fatigue for several years he was lucky enough to stumble across some techniques that helped him to beat adrenal fatigue. He has since helped many others overcome adrenal fatigue through proper nutrition, energy management techniques, and the right adrenal fatigue supplements. |
