As it is with mothers love, the value of education can never be fairly comprehended and appreciated .The term itself is so elusive and means different things to different people that it is nigh impossible even to fully and satisfactory grasp and embrace it.

However, notwithstandingthis, it is fully rational to question to question the relevance of education that one seeks to master. Whatever the biases and penchants that one may have towards education, the object of education must be subject to economic reasoning.

What may be the economic rationale, one may ask, in investing one's time and effort in acquiring, for example, the skills of manufacturing stone implements (as those made by people in stone age), if that knowledge cannot be used in some gainful manner today. Investment in education must be meaningful, at least when concerning the individual concerned, in helping him/her secure a remunerative position.

Therefore, it must be acutely and significance of education.

However, how does one go about measuring the relevance and significance of education, one may wonder. To my knowledge, there is no one and all embracing criterion for the purpose. At least there are two major criteria: one criterion from the point of the individual, the other from the point of view of the society.

In either instance, cost-effectiveness is the central criterion in assessing the relevance and significance of education. If education in which one has invested his/her time and effort, helps the person in question to secure himself/herself a remunerative position, and thus able to maintain, at least, an accepted minimum standard of living, then knowledge that he/she acquired through education, may be of relevance and significance.
