Time Management Strategies - How to Be an Effective Worker

A lot of people always complain about not having enough time to finish their work, but the thing is, everyone has 24 hours a day to spend and no one gets more than that. How come some people actually get the work done and some people don't? It really boils down to having good time management strategies. You need to know how to divide your time to get important things done, not overwork yourself and still a life to call your own.

Executing time management strategies should not be that hard if you follow your plan to the tee. The following are few strategies you may want to implement not only during working hours but on your personal daily life.

Have a daily planner.

Seriously. Don't mind other people saying planners are just for students and wedding coordinators. Having a planner not only allows you to schedule your tasks and appointments on time, it also helps you to be ready and punctual all the time. Having a planner and actually using it allow you to not rush anything. You might think that using pen and paper is way old school but you have to put your trust on this because pen-and-paper-combination ACTUALLY works. Now if you're not comfortable or you're just not used to carrying pen and paper all the time, your smart phone is a good second choice. However, be reminded that phones need battery power and paper planners don't. And if you're really into changing your bad time management, having a back-up planner won't hurt as well, especially for important tasks and dates.

Have a goal.

Before starting your work shift, jot down your daily goals on a sheet of paper (or on a sticky note in your computer). Write the tasks that you need to accomplish as soon as possible. But make the list of goals realistic. Remember that you only have probably eight to twelve hours a day to finish your task so don't list unrealistic goals because you'll just feel disappointed when you can't finish everything (even if you know within yourself that you can't, seeing the "failure" on a sheet of paper can still affect your ego). Try to list goals that are both achievable yet challenging. If you have a goal for the day, you're mindset and body will work hand in hand in producing not only quality work but also tasks delivered on time.

Overdoing everything is bad.

One of the most neglected time management strategies concerns the well being of the worker. Overdoing anything is not good for your health and for your work ethic. Multitasking, if you're not good at it, can be draining. Cramming would just leave you physically and mentally weak. Having a time management plan doesn't mean you can't take a break or you can't chat with your virtual friends. Having a good time management plan rewards you to have at least 10 to 15-minute break every time you accomplish one of your daily goals. This way, you can savor the accomplishment AND do the things that you WANT.
