Many times, people who struggle with time management also may have a more casual or relaxed personality as compared to someone who would be classified as "Type A." This of course, is one major area that dictates the way you respond to stressors and other activities, and inevitably how you run your life. Type A people are traditionally and typically very good at time management. They are more goal oriented and more organized, they tend to be right brained and good at solving problems. They also allow very little variation in their day-to-day schedules and are sticklers for staying on task. The opposite of someone who is Type A is someone who is more relaxed. They tend to be disorganized or have trouble committing or devoting themselves to one task, regardless of their good intentions. They are left brained and have less rigid rules for governing their lives. However, this also leads to issues with time management and how much they are able to get done in a day. While people who are Type A are very good at goal setting, people who are more left brained tend to have a challenge in this area. Therefore, the first item to do when looking to become more Type A, even if that is not your personality type, is to start writing down some goals or things you would like to accomplish in order to get better at organizing your life. Do not just lump all of your time management goals into one category and consider what really bothers you. When you are disorganized, do you get stressed? Are your time management problems leading to issues at work? Are you suffering at school because you cannot get done what you need to get done? Identify the specific areas that are giving you trouble and begin to look at how you actually spend your time. Do you over commit yourself? Do you have problems saying "no?" Are you distracted easily? The answers to all of those questions can lead to problems with time management and how you get through each day and ultimately how productive you are. Once you have identified your goals and where you are deficient, now you have to begin to implement a time management plan and start to get organized.
