Why a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit is a Waste of Money

If you have been considering whether or not it would be a good idea to purchase a reverse osmosis water purification unit, then I have a few things that I need to tell you about them. You might just be throwing away money on something that you really don’t need.

Even if the salesman and his brochure have told you that this system is good for your suburban home it is not true. Only rural homes that are outside of the mainline water supply would be candidates for such a system as this. If you are receiving water through your town’s main system, them an R.O. unit is unnecessary.

You see, a reverse osmosis water purification unit is very similar to the system that is used at your local treatment facility. Because of this the purchase of this unit for your own personal use would simply be redundant; using the same process twice is not going to make your water any safer to drink.

The R.O. system that is used by the treatment facilities is obviously not a water purifier, or we wouldn’t be forced to look for other methods of making our water safe to drink. All that the R.O. system that they use does is demineralize your water, it does very little towards making your water clean.

A reverse osmosis water purification unit uses a porous filter, which allows anything that is of equal to or less than the molecular weight of water pass through unencumbered. What this means is that the system removes almost none of the contaminants that are in the water supply.

Your system at home will not offer you any more protection than the one at the water treatment facility will, and in fact it will probably give you less since the home unit is a less sophisticated machine. About the only thing that this system will do for you is add to your electric bill, and in a big way.

There are far better choices for your home than a reverse osmosis water purification unit. There are excellent point of use and whole house filters that will provide you with everything that you will need in order to be protected. These are the type of purification systems that you need.

You will need a unit that provides you plenty of protection from the chemical contaminants in your water. This means that your unit will have to include both a multi media block and a granular activated carbon filter if you are going to be successful in removing all of the chemicals that are present in your water.

You will also require a sub micron filter that will remove the remaining parasites and cysts in the water, and an ion exchange for toxic metals. This combination of filter will offer you and your family the kind of protection that you would never have been able to get from the purchase and use of a reverse osmosis water purification unit. That unit is simply not cut out for the job.
