HOW TO SAVE MATERNAL DEATHS?

Woman is a creature that creates experience such agony that can be understood by her only. A large number of women die due to the complexities related to pregnancy and child birth. All over the world a campaign is being run to save the women from the cruel clutches of unwanted death. The United Nations organization has envisaged the issue in its Millennium Development Goal 5. The United Nations has planned a number of programs to create awareness among the masses. It needs more resources and struggle to reach the destitute and poor nations.

It is often seen that UN officials get facts and figures from the developed countries and submit their reports. A great deal of the data is based on speculation and projected techniques that can not help solving the problem. The very first step in this connection is the impartial analysis and research work on the issue of the maternal death. ` From Africa to Asia and Europe to America factual data should be collected and analyzed. This can help alleviating the intensity of the maternal deaths. The second step should be to create awareness among the masses about the prenatal and post natal complexities. Every woman should be aware of the problems of pregnant life. The possible complexities that might perplex the birth process should be made public. From early adult hood all the symptoms and there possible remedies should be taught to the girls. The hundreds and thousands of unnecessary deaths occur each year due to the complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, as the people do not know about the entangled problems related to child birth.

The technical expertise is another step to save the lives of the children and mothers. Such gadgets should be made available as can help diagnosing the problem. The modern inventions are there but available to a very limited population of the advanced countries and wealthy nations. These scientific methods and machines should be supplied to the areas of Africa and Asia where death rate due to pregnancy and child birth is very high. On national level an increased investment in the field of health and especially in mother care sector is the need of the hour to decrease the gravity of the situation.

The cultural issue that often aggravates the situation needs some correction. There are many countries where a pregnant woman does not confess publicly that she is going to be a mother. Often she does not tell the family members about her pregnancy. Then it is the male leader of the family who is to decide the fate of dying lady. Often he does not allow the woman to have regular check ups. Moreover he does not allow the family to take the lady to an expert doctor at the time of birth. This often takes the life of the woman and child. This gender difference must be eliminated.

World health organization with the help of local authorities must adopt a program to realize the people about the pregnancy and childbirth complications. Quite a large number of pregnant girls and especially those who are going to give birth to the first child are totally unaware of the complications. Male members of third world countries have little respect for the female members of their societies; it is an imperative for the issue of maternal health. The male dominant societies should make the dominant class know the real worth of females for the prolongation and continuity of the species.

All the reasons and causes aside the nutrition is the most important one. The most hazardous and fatal cause of maternal health is the issue of malnutrition. Many a country has not enough food even for the normal members of the society. A special kind of diet is the need of a pregnant woman, but the poor nations can not afford that. If we want to alleviate the mortality rate among pregnant women, we have to supply enough food under specific programs for such ladies. Malnutrition does not let the fragile bodies of such girls to improve, the bones do not develop properly and it becomes a cause of death during child birth.

The people of Africa and Asia and especially the people of SAARC region have scarce resources of nutrition. Not to speak of the malnutrition; the overwork is an extra onus on the lives of girls of the third world countries. Malnutrition along with overwork play havoc with the health of the women and consequently they die during the child birth. This overwork can be lessened by the local authorities by devising such laws as forbid the pregnant women from overwork. Moreover the international organization might play their role by stressing the need of relaxation for such women.
