Are You Considering Tubal Reversal?

Many women who have had a tubal ligation change their minds after it is completed. For many the idea of tubal reversal will make them feel whole again. For others who suffer from what has been called “Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome”, tubal reversal can be effective in relieving symptoms that they have had to endure month after month since the tubal ligation.

For many women and couples wanting to have a tubal reversal this is a decision that is not taken lightly. And rightly so as this is a surgery that will change your life. As with any surgery it can be nerve racking and much thought and energy goes into making the final decision.

There are many doctors out there who tout the “fact” they are number one with the best facilities for performing the surgery. Many questions should be asked and answered before a decision is made on tubal reversal.

The following is a list to help with the research:

  • How is the surgery performed? Will you have to stay in the hospital or does the doctor have the expertise and knowledge to perform the tubal reversal on an outpatient basis?
  • Does the doctor have a well-trained and compassionate staff that care about women and their partners? Look at the qualifications of the staff. Are there board certified anesthesiologists present during the surgery? Does the nursing staff consist of RNs or are they mostly LPNs or even non-licensed assistants? This is something that is top priority.
  • Check to see if the doctor and staff have a support system in place for women and couples trying to make the decision for tubal reversal. If they do not, then can they recommend someone or a group?
  • Does the doctor have a website? This is something that can be used to answer questions, get support, and educate.
  • Ask the physician to produce statistics on the tubal reversal surgeries that he or she has personally performed. Some doctors have been using the statistics from Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center on their websites. Make sure the doctor has his or her OWN statistics. (Most don’t!)
  • What kind of follow-up care will be offered after the tubal reversal surgery? Will the doctor or staff check in with you once or twice or will he or she continue to follow-up for years after including through your pregnancy?
  • Is there someone available if you have a question before or after the scheduled surgery? Try to find a facility that has a staff member available 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. Yes, this is available by some of the experts out there.

Tubal reversal is available and by some of the best known doctors out there and many women and couples have become proud parents. This is a surgery that is delicate and must be performed right the first time. With a little research and questions the best tubal reversal can be obtained.
