Shamit Khemka is a commerce graduate from St. Xavier College. While in college, he had decided to step in to entrepreneurship. His first venture, Pharos Infotech in 1994, came soon after his graduation. Pharos was the first dotcom in India that offered BBS (Bulletin Board Service) with email, even before the advent of the internet services by VSNL.

His second venture was Sampatti.com (in 1998) – a website catering to the needs of the realty market in India. The innovative real estate directory and database was welcomed by the real estate investors in India.
