How To Be The Best Person You Can BeThe idea of being the BEST person you can be is not about being Perfect or doing everything you know you should all at once. It is about living each day as if it were your last. Living your life to the fullest. Not constantly putting things off until 'tomorrow'. Being the best person you can be is about making time for the things youwant to do, as well as doing the things you know you must do. We all have those tedious things that need to be done, day in and day out. However, we all also have 24 hours in a day. 'I don't have enough time', is a poor excuse and will not work if you want to be the best person you can be. Because the best version of YOU, would MAKE the time - as you very well know. It's most likely too, that the things you want to include in your day wouldn't even be that difficult if you only tried to shift your daily duties around a little and thought creatively about how to achieve these things. Creating Steps you need to take is the quickest and easiest option to become the Best person you can be. For example - Let's say the Best person you can be would be going for a jog each day, learning French and living in a beautiful mansion by the Sea. Unachievable right? WRONG!
Let's take a look at a general day in the life of Mr. Average Joe and see where changes could be made. Joe awakens at 6am every morning and spends an hour getting ready for work and eating breakfast. He has a 45 minute commute to work and a 1 hour lunch break then another 45 minute commute back home. He fixes dinner, watches some TV, pays his bills via Internet Banking, then gets to sleep around 10.30pm. This is a busy day and if you were anything like Joe, you would no doubt be exhausted. How on earth could you or Joe for that matter fit in these extra things? You're already doing your best and putting in your all each day, right?! Maybe these things you want for yourself can only be reserved for weekends? No - Stop Right There. If you're going to be the Best person YOU can Be, you must always think in terms of NOW. There is no tomorrow, next week, or on the weekend - there is only NOW. Let's shuffle that same day around a little to include the goals the best version of yourself would be achieving. You awake at 5.30am, change into your sweats and take a 1/2 hour jog. You get back at 6am and get ready for work and eat breakfast as usual. You put your 'Learn French' Audio CD into the CD player in your car and practice your verb conjugations on the way to work. If you were feeling extra organised that day, you would have already copied the CD to your iPod and will listen to the next French Lesson at Lunch. Your third lesson is in the car waiting for you on the way home and you're well on your way to fluency already. You fix dinner, pay your bills via Internet Banking and transfer some money toward your beautiful mansion by the Sea into your new Progress Saver account with a lovely high rate of interest, foregoing the TV and you get to sleep around 10pm. See? It's easy. All you need to do is identify what the Best version of YOU would be adding to their day, then work out a way to do it. There is no doubt we all spend parts of our day doing menial jobs that don't really need to be done. Or worse, we spend too much time doing things we don't want to do, but feel that we should. If you want to make a change in how you live NOW, you need to sit yourself down, on your lunch break or when you have a spare 10 minutes to yourself and make two lists. First make a list of all the things that 'The best person You can be' would be doing in their life. Break it up into three parts to make it a little easier to get your juices flowing. For Example:
Your second list will consist of the areas in your day and week where you could shuffle things around and make room to complete the activities and hobbies you want. As with our example above, could you wake 1/2 an hour earlier? Utilize otherwise wasted time such as travelling or your lunch-hour? Speed up the time you take doing the washing and the dishes in order to spend more quality time on your desires. If you need to, get inspired. Watch some of your favourite movies where the character takes control of their life and changes it for the better. If you know what you want, let nothing stop you from getting it and believe you can, then you will make it. If movies don't do it for you, listen to your favourite music, or read your favourite books or poetry. While you're getting inspired, keep this thought in mind....what would my world be like if this person (Author, Director or Musician) hadn't made the time to do what they loved and did their very best to become the Best Person they could be? If everyone kept putting off their true heart's desire to do the washing, work at their day job or look after their kids, our world would be a very different place - and I believe a very boring one at that. Distraction and Loss of Focus It's natural that we all get off track now and then. Things come up that we can't get out of, kids get sick, your Mother-in-Law needs your help at her house this weekend. If you lose focus, don't scald yourself or beat yourself up over it. Accept that you're only human, you got distracted and missed a few days of fulfilling your desires. Don't waste time feeling bad about it. Start right away by doing something to get yourself back into the momentum of living for today and living your best life. Make a new list if you must, to help re-gain your focus and assess what it is you really want to be achieving with your time.
A great way to become and stay in syncronization with your true desires is to return to silence. Meditation need not be sitting on a grass mat with your legs crossed over your thighs and sitting for hours and hours on end. Laying on your bed for 10 minutes while you stare at one of your favourite pictures is a great way to return to silence, quiet the mind and discover what it really is you want to achieve for yourself. If you have the courage to ask yourself, you will find more about what you want in one 10 minute session of peace. Live for now and take the steps to Be the Best Person You Can Be. You will thank yourself for it later. |
