Eating Healthy To Battle Obesity

There is a reason why the United States of America has the most instances of obese or overweight people in the world, and that is simply due to the fact that we are not eating as healthy as we could be.
All the time, we hear stories and see these commercials for fat loss and weight loss. Typically, the commercial will showcase one or two individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight.  But where are the details about what else they are doing in order to lose that weight?
In America, we seem to be so focused on being able to fit into our bathing suits that we will go to great extremes to achieve that result. However, most people don't seem to realize that in order to look and feel fit, it is going to take a lot more than swallowing a harmful pill or going on a crash diet (also harmful). Rather, it simply boils down to having a healthy diet combined with adequate exercise. In the United States of America, so many people have the wrong idea about 'diet'. They look at 'diet' as a fad- something short term that will help them fit into that wedding dress or will help them look great on the beaches this sumer when, in fact, your diet should be something that you can follow every day for the rest of your life. Contrary to popular belief, there are no 'shortcuts' when it comes to your health...but many of us believe that there is- which is why infomercials advertising diet pills and various exercise accessories do so well!
As much as I would love to believe that eating a small, microwaved meal contains all of the nutrients that my body needs (and then some), I know that this is not true. I know that each person's body is different and unique in its needs. For example, my boyfriend, who is 6'3 and weighs significantly more than I do, needs to consume more food more frequently than me because he is burning off more energy than me. Also, the fact that his body is made up of primarily muscle versus fat indicates that he is burning far more calories even when he is doing nothing versus someone else of his frame that has more fat than muscle.
Eating healthy is something that is well within your control. Despite the fact that there is a fast food restaurant on every corner nowadays, at the end of it all is you deciding on whether or not to drive through the fast food pick up window. Eating healthy is a choice that boils down to the question: "How long do I want to live disease free?" Not only this, but eating healthy has a direct correlation to certain ailments, conditions and diseases that you may or may not contract later on in life.
