Valentines Day also known as Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on 14 February by lots of people throughout the world. In many English-speaking countries, valentines day is considered as the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting Valentine's cards, gift flowers, and offering confectionery. People should know that the holiday is named after Christian martyrs known as Valentine. People should know that the day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished in many coutries.
Peopel should know that the day is especially associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines" in many countries. People should know that the modern Valentine symbols carries the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid and by seeing that people recognised it as valentine symbol. The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th century America was done through general greeting cards rather than declarations of love and now today considered as one of the Hallmark holidays. The U.S. Greeting Card Association shows that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year across the globe making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year following Christmas. As per the reports of this association, in the US, men spend on average twice as much money as women on this day.
Lots of early Christian martyrs were named as Valentine. People of Valentines honored on February 14 are Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni in many countries. People should know that Valentine of Rome was a priest of Rome who suffered martyrdom about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. Later his relics are kept at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome. While some people believe that the first recorded association of Valentine's Day with romantic love was in Parlement of Foules by Geoffrey Chaucer. As Chaucer wrote:
