Acne - Your Treatment Options

Mild Acne - pimples, whiteheads and blackheads

Treatment Program Options: Wash with a mild Oil-absorbing Cleanser, using only a wash cloth for removal, (no scrubbing or harsh sponges.) Next, a toner containing 2% Salicylic acid, is applied with a cotton ball. Finally, a 5% gel of Benzoyl Peroxide, is smoothed over the affected Acne area. Clearer skin should begin to be seen in 4-7 days.

Moderate- numerous reoccurring blemishes

Treatment Program Options: If Mild Acne treatments were tried but the Acne continues to accelerate, your doctor is your next step for a more advanced program. You'll need a prescription for the concentrated versions of Acne lotions and creams. Because bacteria and fatty acids build up underneath dead and dry skin, it can take an antibiotic lotion to eliminate the bacteria. These antibiotics will be in addition to the cleaning program you began with your mild Acne. Those cleaners will still be your foundation.

Severe acne- cysts, inflamed skin, spreading blemishes

Treatment Program Options: Since deeper blemishes can leave lifetime scars, your doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics and/or a retinoid immediately, to accelerate your recovery process. The doctor may also physically drain the blemishes and cysts.

Treatment Program Thoughts

Whatever your Acne program, it will take patience. When your Acne has been left unchecked, your treatment may be especially slow and seem endless. Some options can even increase the blemishes before they begin to clear. This can be the most difficult time. For expert help, use the aid of a Skin Care Specialist familiar with the products for mild to medium Acne. They can develop a cleansing program for your needs.

If your Acne increases or becomes visually worse, visit your doctor. Then, follow all treatment procedures exactly, without fail. This is not the time to be lax in your skin care routine. Be sure if you and your doctor decide on an oral retinoid, it is done with caution, side affects can be involved.

Just remember, you are not alone. Help is there for you; but don't just try random products on your own. For best results that last, use specialists who have helped others before you.
