Veneers were originally devised by a dental surgeon in California. However the cement that was utilized and available was of inferior quality and the veneers came off soon after.
These days, veneers have been highly modernized. Using modern bonding adhesives, they can bond to the teeth for up to 30 years. In the past, the only way to correct dental imperfections was to cover the tooth with a crown.
How is veneer defined? Per the dictionary, it states "a thin layer of a material bonded to the surface of a less attractive or inferior material". Veneers in dentistry are very thin layers of artificial tooth (made either of porcelain or a resin composite) that are the natural color of your tooth and are placed on your tooth.
In modern dentistry, veneers as such are used to improve the aesthetics of the teeth or to repair/protect a damaged tooth surface.
When would you need veneers? Unsightly gaps between your teeth, broken or chipped teeth, poorly shaped and crooked teeth; worn down uneven or misaligned teeth. Veneers are also used to handle teeth that are permanently discolored or stained from the inside and outside, that are unable to be brought back to the natural color through professional teeth whitening.
As gone over previously, veneers are made of porcelain or resin. Your dentist can advise you which option might be best suited.
Veneers are highly resistant to the staining from coffee, tea, tobacco etc. They can make your teeth look good and feel healthy; while giving you a new, better look.
Veneers have been given the 'thumbs-up' by dentists and patients, with accounts of peoples personal lives having changed for the better after veneers through new confidence - hiding teeth from other people is no longer an issue.
Though veneers stand within the realm of cosmetic dentistry, they are a relatively simple, fast, and straightforward procedure that greatly enhances one's looks, strengthens one's teeth, and may be exactly what you need to improve your appearance and your smile.
Veneers are manufactured at the laboratory, after your initial visit with your local dental expert. During your initial visit, your dentist will consult you on the procedure and will take a mold of the tooth/teeth to be veneered. When your veneer(s) have been made in the laboratory, your dentist will place them on the required tooth/teeth. At that point he will consult you on the care of the veneers to ensure they last for a long time and stay in a good state.
