The Issues With Home Made Teeth Whitening

Many of these methods may actually work, however they don't come without some potential side effects. The main way these methods are whitening your teeth is by mixing baking soda and some sort of acidic fruit. The problem is that baking soda helps break down and decompose solids, which is why its commonly used as a cleaning agent. When applied to your teeth the baking soda can actually start breaking down and decompose your tooth enamel which is the protective layer on your tooth. If you use baking soda to often it can actually lead to tooth and gum decay. The acid in the fruit is used as the bleaching agent to help whiten your teeth, however since baking soda is amphoteric it actually neutralizes the acid in the fruit and basically just leaves you with a better tasting baking soda. Dentists and the ADA recommend that you do not exceed using these methods more than 2 times per month to avoid any serious side effects.
