5 Simple Teeth Whitening Tips

There are many ways to keep your teeth looking their best, even if you drink way too much coffee or soda and enjoy the "occasional" cigarette. Take a look below for five simple teeth whitening tips, to help your teeth look their whitest.

1. Coffee, tea, wine, cola drinks -- all cause extreme staining on your teeth. We've all seen habitual coffee and tea drinkers who have tell-tale signs of their bad habit on their teeth. Brushing your teeth after drinking, or at the very least swishing some water in your mouth will go along way to keeping your teeth free of stains.

2. The same goes for smoking. Due to the heat from the cigarette, rinsing and brushing may not be as helpful to smokers. Try to cut back as much as you can and don't smoke right before you go to bed without brushing and rinsing with mouthwash (alcohol free.) Almost all teeth whitening tips will caution against alcohol based mouthwash, as the alcohol can accelerate staining and has recently been found to be a possible oral carcinogen.

3. Brush and floss at least twice per day with a soft bristle brush (hard bristle brushes are hard on your gum line and tooth enamel), both in the morning and before bedtime. Floss before going to bed to clean up any gunk in between your teeth (mouthwash is not a suitable alternative contrary to what many people believe.)

4. Eating fruits with high citrus levels is great for teeth whitening: oranges, lemon, grapefruit, etc -- are all great for natural teeth whitening and are found in many natural whitening products. Strawberries are also known to have whitening properties in them.

5. Baking soda, both as an ingredient in your toothpaste of choice -- or straight out of the box is a great natural teeth whitener. Using baking soda and salt are teeth whitening tips that many people use and are great for a maintenance program after using a whitening product.
