Acne Treatment Using Light: One of the Safest Methods

Open a web source for acne treatment methods and you will be flooded with huge chunks of data citing resolution methods. This always leads to confusion, as each one of them seems helpful. A powerful and successful one among them is using light sources. Acne treatment with light is one of the safest methods as it does not involve any medication or clinical procedures.

A decade ago, the only known procedure was using high beam laser light. Laser light was used primarily because of its high power, due to which the effects start vanishing almost suddenly. Burning follicle sac responsible for hair growth, altering the growth of oil producing glands immediately, killing bacteria by keeping them in a high concentration of oxygen are some benefits associated with this method. Since long exposure of laser to the skin can cause serious damage to the skin, so FDA has standardised the procedure, to maintain that even the longest exposure period lies in the limits.  This is a costly procedure and you may have to shell a fortune in extreme cases.

Recent technical research and developments have also made use of visible light for acne treatment. Within the visible range, violet with a wavelength of 450nm is widely used in phototherapy. A latest research has shown that daily exposure, two times can lead to a reduction in the disease by 60%. The free radicals generated during, the exposure is responsible for killing the bacteria responsible for clogging. Since the free radicals termed as porphyrins, are not generated by UV or infrared light, so they are considered safe and thus approved by FDA.

General public conception about these may bug you with irregularities; however there are no as such side effects associated with this, if it is followed with the approved standards and constant monitoring.
