7 Tips To Clear Up Adult Acne

While acne usually targets teens, adults and 20-somethings (like me) can get a flare-up of blemishes or worse. Which, in turn, usually puts a quick damper on my social life.

If you're like me that's the last thing you want. So here are 7 simple steps you can follow to help clear up acne:

1) Keep your hands off your face—sweat, grime, bacteria are frequently picked up from other places and end up on your hands.

2) Wash your face twice daily—grime, grease and air pollution (I'm in LA)  all come

in contact with your face. Use a clean washcloth, warm water and mild soap/cleanser.

3) Work out 3-4 times a week—Sweating via exercise helps clear out your pores; I personally am into "spinning" but any form of aerobics will do to help clear up acne.

4) Loosen up when working out-–Friction caused by snug-fitting, synthetic headbands and jogging suits can cause acne. Keep your workout clothes loose and made of cotton.

5) Shower after your work out—The dead skin cells that come through your pores when exercising needs to be washed away. Use a moisturizing body wash or soap to clean way and replenish skin moisture.

6) Look at your makeup—My girlfriends and I have noticed certain brands of make-up trigger a blemish outbreak. Look for "oil-free" or "nocomedogenic" products.

7) Manage your stress—Feeling stressed out (a daily feeling I get in the retail world I work in)  can end up in a flare-up. That's because your body starts producing cortisol which tells your skin to produce more oil. Find a way to kick the stress out through meditation or relaxation techniques.
