Your immune system is like a dormant volcano, when it is quiet; it is all lush, green and peaceful.  But when it is active, it ruptures and wreaks great havoc carving a path of wonton destruction everywhere.

An over active immune system may present in any of the following common diseases e.g. asthma, arthritis, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, allergies, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, lupus, Graves disease, fibromyalgia and Crohn's disease just to name a few..  All these diseases are associated with acute immune activation characterized by flare ups and remissions   Note that these illnesses have one thing in common - an over active immune system curiously attacking its own healthy tissues sometimes causing life-threatening complications.  When healthy tissues become inflamed or die, we cause injury and premature aging.

This begs the question, why do our immune systems specifically produce anti-bodies to actively seek out and destroy the tissues they were supposed to protect?  If you can answer this question you have the key to reversing the aging process!

According to Dr. Mark Liponis, all the latest scientific research seem to point to the fact that "soothing" your immune system or living in harmony with it provides the best answer to reversing the aging process.

The best way to soothe our immune system is to regularly practice the pillars for healthy living every single day of our lives and they are as follow:

  1. Maintain a stable healthy weight (drastic weight changes or "yo-yo" dieting bring tremendous stress to your body)
  2. Maintain healthy teeth and gums - floss, rinse and brush your teeth after every meal
  3. Remove environmental and dietary allergens (they induce inflammation)
  4. Eliminate highly processed foods (they tend to be nutrient-poor and energy-rich)
  5. Have a generous serve of anti-inflammatory foods and probiotics (good bacteria from foods like yoghurt) 3 times a day
  6. Take an antioxidant supplement to boost your circulating antioxidants
  7. Relax (meditation, tai chi, yoga, deep breathing exercise)
  8. Laugh often (laughter is the best medicine)
  9. Get quality sleep, preferably be in harmony with the circadian rhythm
  10. Exercise (dancing, swimming, resistance training, stretching and endurance events)
  11. Manage your emotional state and develop love and compassion for yourself and others (negative emotions like hatred, jealousy, greed and anger lead to hostile immune systems and premature aging)
  12. Practice mindfulness
