Marriage is a universal topic, everyone believes they know the most on the topic, when to do it and how to keep it going once the last of the confetti has fallen. The wedding may potentially be the biggest event of a person's life, with the entire process being a whirlwind for many - from start to finish, with loads of dramas and surprises happening along the way.

Marriage is even more complicated in the 21st century with a large majority of couples choosing NOT to marry for reasons ranging from the associated costs alone, no longer feeling "pressured" into it by society or not really believing in it anymore. Now, these may be some people's reasons for not getting married, but there are loads of reasons FOR marriage...even if it is just to make sure someone always tells you when you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe!

1. You have found the One for you

So you have decided you want to spend the rest of your life with this person. They have undoubtedly seen the best and worst of you, and yet still wants to see more. Finding the 'One' is a origin of limitless love songs and bad poetry, yet only the people involved can actually know if marriage is the next logical step.

2. You are ready to commit for life

Many people chose to live in de facto relationships with their partners, but becoming married is not simply a religious ceremony but a legally binding contract agreed to for both parties involved.

3. Someone to blame when things go missing

We have all done it, lost the keys or the remote only to walk around frustrated looking for them to suddenly appear. Well one of the hidden bonuses of marriage is that it has an in-built blaming system which lets you blame your spouse whenever you can't find said missing items, while there are many times when the accusations are unfounded it is a celebratedfact that yelling about a missing object will make a person remember where they left it. As such this is a handy reason for many married couples.

4. Get to have a whole party in your honour

The wedding ceremony and its consequent other events can be reason enough for marriage, not even counting the numerous events that follow. From the bucks or hens night to the first anniversary, marriage gives an excellent reason for quality gifts and experiences for the starring couple.

5. No more awkward dates!

Bad dates can leave a very bad impression, leaving many people to wish for marriage just as an excuse to avoid them, marriage offers the perfect justification for letting down those interested parties who are persistent beyond the polite refusal. "Dinner? Oh, I'm sorry, I'm married" far less cruel than "I think I'm busy that night doing anything else in the world." Of course the swap is that you no longer suffer the hilariously distinct world of the present dating scene, allowed to live vicariously through friends.

6. No longer having to do family events alone

Being married can have many considerable advantages, if not only for the wingman at forced events who can fill in awkward silences, help you avoid and escape from nervous conversations and offers an easy way out to leave early..."Oh we would love to stay but unfortunately spouse is just not feeling well."

7. Free medical care when sick

Often the forgotten vow in many marriages, the vow of sickness and in health can sometimes be the biggest benefit for many successful marriages cause who doesn't love it when you have around-the-clock care when feeling sick?

8. More consistent chance of getting lucky without alcohol!

Definitely not a guarantee, marriage may prove more exciting then what some people's dating years were.

9. Story support

You may be certain that the story from your first day at uni is the best one you have in your anecdotes collection, so it's a high chance that your spouse knows it off by heart. And yet, the perks of marriage mean that while they have heard it before, they should humour you by sitting through it again, responding to the jokes and not pointing out any new plot twists or exaggerations in the story.

10. Sparring partner when you need it

Of course, one of the best features of marriage can sometimes be the fact that you have found someone who loves you no matter what, even when you are irrational, erratic and completely mad, they can provide either a sparring partner or an excellent sounding board.

Marriage is a great source of amusement and jokes for most people, both for those who are living it and those who are playing the comedic onlooker role. But all jokes aside, marriage is a serious commitment that people take once they are prepared and ready to share their lives with other person, both the fun and the hard times.
