Sitting hunched at the workstation is probably nobody's idea of fun, and least of all of your body's. Sitting virtually motionless for hours together can make you feel cramped and uncomfortable, but worst of all, you may end up putting needless pressure on your spine and body joints.

In what follows, we will suggest some simple exercises that you do in no time at all, while at your workstation. These may not help you in reducing your waistline, but they will certainly help avert long term damage to your body – and that, in itself, is a very worth pursuit, now isn't it?

1.Simple Neck Exercises
Every now and then, at say one hour intervals, make sure that you rotate your neck clockwise and counter-clockwise, five times each way. This helps in keeping your neck loose and relaxed, and doesn't put unnecessary strain on it. It also helps in avoiding a stiff neck.

2.Loosen your wrists
At roughly the same intervals, rotate your wrists around as well. Flex your fingers and elbows, while you are it, and in general, ensure that your hands are not in the same position for extended periods. This helps you avoid the dreaded carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition that can leave your hands in a great deal of pain at the very least.

3.Wriggle those toes
Not just the toes, of course. Make sure that you flex the knees and give your ankles the odd rotations. The idea, as with the previous exercises, is to keep your joins relatively mobile. Your joints, if not used for extended periods, can turn stiff and unwieldy. Most of these exercises are simply aimed at keeping them as flexible as possible.

The most important thing that you can do is get up and stretch your legs every now and then. Make sure you get up for water breaks, or to talk with your colleague at the other end of the floor. You should do this at least once every couple of hours, at the very least.

It's your body, after all – and it will be with you long after you retire from work. Do remember to take good care of it.
